The name Jack Abramoff is synonymous with Washington scandal, but the fascinating facts of his case are either largely unknown or wildly misunderstood.

His memoir will serve as a corrective - an engrossing, informative work of political nonfiction that is also a gripping real-life thriller. The biggest surprise twist comes in the form of Abramoff himself, a smart, funny, charming, clear-eyed narrator who confounds every expectation of the media's villainous portrait. He's a perfect bundle of contradictions: an Orthodox Jew and upstanding family man with a staunch moral streak, caught in multiple scandals of bribery and corruption with an undercurrent of murder.

Abramoff represented Indian tribes whose lucrative casinos were constantly under threat from proposed changes in law; though he charged the tribes many millions, he saved them billions by ensuring votes to support the livelihoods of their reservations. Much of Jack's share was funneled not into his own coffers, but to charities. Abramoff on the front pages could not be further from the Jack Abramoff who's ready to tell his honest and compelling story.

Offers a rare opportunity to see the corruption of Capitol Hill from the inside through the eyes of a man who was one of the top lobbyists in Washington. Those clearly apply to our local politicians as well. Abramoff offers solutions at the end of the book, but it seems those have gone nowhere since the book was published four years ago.

It would take an informed and determined electorate, and that appears to be nowhere in sight. Is Abramoff lying and holding back in this book? Wouldn't doubt it, but a lot of truth still comes through. And lying and covering up is, sad to say, a fair description of the vast majority of politicos who are still in office and have never gone to jail. Abramoff is a skillful writer.

And he has the inner strength to open his soul to those who would scoff at his revelations - because of so much misinformation. Everyone I talked to about only remembered what he looked like in his long overcoat and pulled down hat - and that is as far as their knowledge of him ended. I, for one, believe in the scenerario he has presented, not calling his actions blameless, but instead exhorting the reader to become informed and act to forgo futuristic failures of this country's leadership.

E, West, But a Lowly Reader. When you read "Capital Punishment" by Jack Abramoff, ask yourself one question: " what did Abramoff go to prison for that most of Congress shouldn't have been there with him?

Influence peddling has been going on since this country was founded. The only difference between what Abramoff did, and members of Congress are still doing, is that he did it better than most. Am I excusing criminal behavior???? No, but I advocate equal punishment for ALL offenders. Abramoff very thoughtfully gives you his take of the seedy side of politics, that most all politicos play in at one time or another.

Many prosper, and a few do get caught, but not nearly enough. Abramoff's journey from a desire to achieve a certain agenda to his fall and disgrace is spellbinding. This book rips away the fog of secrecy that most in Washinton D. This book is a tell all about who Congress really works for. Excellent read! If anyone wants to know how Washington really works, read this book.

The lobbyist heavily influence most all legislation. We are seeing it today with the stalemate over the "Fiscal Cliff. Abramoff gave us some specific information on the bad behavior of some individuals in Congress, he knows a lot more and withheld it for whatever reason. Also, think that a lot of the information he gave us regarding how he gave away most of the money he made in his illegal endeavors was self serving.

I would like to give more money to charity, but would have to rob a bank to do it. He didn't rob a bank just the integrity of the congressional process. I have no ill will toward him and other than is flawed rationalization processes, he seems a pretty decent guy. He had good motivations for the clients that he was helping, and I do think that they recieved what they paid for. He got results, but just crossed the line in his zeal to win for them.

My only regret is that the people he bribed, members of Congress, do not have to pay the same price he did. He would not have been able to break the law if the culture of corruption did not exist there. My best wishes to Mr.

Abramoff, who has paid for his misdeeds, and thanks for a very informative and interesting read. If you want to think of Jack Abramoff as a one-dimensional character, this book will blow your mind. He is one of the most complicated, intelligent, up-front men you'll ever encounter. His book is refreshingly candid, and I saw the good the bad and the ugly of his life. From the insanely funny tales of trying to make action movies in Africa, to the tragic details of his demise, you will feel it all.

This is a must read book for anyone even vaguely interested in politics. It is mandatory for anyone who wants to work hard and succeed -- why? He shows you success, and more importantly, how he failed racing headlong toward a goal. I bought the book because it purported to expose structural corruption in Washington DC.

I expected a more comprehensive analysis. Instead it was more of a memoir with anecdotal commentary on the topic. Abramoff's life was interesting to a point, but I would have done nicely without hole by hole recountings of bets on golf games. I valued his side of the story after a voracious media scapegoating, and his assumption of responsibility seems sincere. It is unfortunate that a kind of amoral win-at-all-cost ethos preoccupies so many talented and ambitious people.

I can only dream what would happen if all that talent was working in the service of our nation rather than self-interest and greed. Book was in pristine condition. Excellent delivery time interesting book. Written from his point of view. Any good lobbyists would know when they broke a rule or of they are in a gray area. He did have some really good suggestion on how to fix the system. I saw the movie and had to buy the book!

Very eye opening story. Loved every sentence of it. See all reviews from the United States. Top international reviews.
