Apr 06, Shannon rated it it was ok. However, there was also a plethora of stories that were pretty pointless and not very interesting. My biggest problem with the book was the quality of writing.
Bob is very proud of himself that he wrote this himself; unfortunately, you can tell. It reads like he literally went through his diaries in chronological order and recorded himself speaking out loud about the little tidbits from each day or week that he personally fo some of the content of this book was very entertaining and interesting.
It reads like he literally went through his diaries in chronological order and recorded himself speaking out loud about the little tidbits from each day or week that he personally found to be entertaining and that oral storytelling was literally just transcribed into a book. I got used to the writing style, but never enjoyed it.
The stuff about Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne was, by far, the most entertaining portion of the book. If ozzy didn't want his friend to get screwed over, he could have done something about it.
From what I can tell, ozzy also perpetuated the lies and miscredits assuming bob is telling the truth, of course and ozzy sure benefited. So blaming Sharon for everything and absolving ozzy is sexist in my opinion. Do I think Sharon is also greedy and heartless? You betcha.
But I just don't think she is Satan doing everything on her own without Ozzy's compliance and agreement. Also, Bob kept getting screwed over by them over and over and he kept going back!
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me times, and how stupid am I to keep falling for it? So he is also at fault in some ways. The book does go on too long. He didn't need to catch us up on all his latest slights and "been done wrongs" up until the day before the book went to press; that made him seem like a whiner. I have no doubt this guy is an insanely talented bassist and didn't get a lot of money and credits he was owed. I'm glad i read his story, I just think it could have been a better read had it been organized and written by an actual writer.
The ozzy stuff was 4 stars but everything else was stars so I'm rating this one low overall because there were more flaws than successes with it. View 2 comments.
