Microbial diversity. Problems and solutions to the study of microbes in nature. Factors afecting distribution and activity of microorganisms in nature. Measurement of microbial activity. Potential measures and in situ methods. Molecular methods: genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics. Research papers will be selected at the beginning of the course and distributed among students.
Maximum mark for the course is points, minimum mark to pass the course is 50 points. Final grading is derived from the following activities: EXAM: contributes to final grading with 45 points. Final exam will include questions from all contents of the course, lectures, research and discussion papers, and laboratory experiments. Bibliographic material is permitted. Laptops and other devices with internet connection are forbidden. A minimum mark of 18 is required for this activity.
This is a resit activity. Consists in a laboratory report and answers some questions related to tlaboratory work. This is a cooperative work activity groups of students.
This activity has two parts, the study of a research paper and the presentation of a summary 20 points , its presentation as a research seminar 20 points. This is a group-working activity students.

Includes quiz about all contents of the course theoretical framework, paper discussions and lab experiments. Exam is based on discussion questions and interpretation of research graphs and texts. This activity must be done individually. Students can use bibliographic material papers, lecture notes, books but not electronic devices with internet connection during the exam. Maximum grade of this activity is Minimum grade to pass the course is Groups will be organized in the course, tipically will consist of 2 to 4 students.
Research papers will be delivered at the begining of the course and must be analized and discussed scientifically. This activity has a maximum grade of 40, divided in two parts, a summary of the work done 20 and a public presentation, scientific seminar, of the paper discussed All students must participate in the presentation of the work. This activity contributes to a maximum of Grading will be done after the receipt of a laboratory report of the experiments done in the lab sessions.
