This section is read-only. Forum rules Topics archived from Public Space and its subforums after a long period of inactivity, or redundant for some other reason. I'm doing some research into Brian Ferneyhough's 'Kurze Schatten II' and wondered if any of you have learnt or attempted to learn it, and whether anyone would be prepared to answer some very brief questions on their interpretive experience.

I'm also looking for recommendations of any recordings, or any unrecorded performances you may have heard or even if you have a friend not outside of this forum who is learning it I would be eternally indebted! Thanks, Asharks. And to learn more about this forum and its rules, please have a look at our welcome page.

There was some discussion of Kurze Schatten II last year including quite a lengthy analysis of the piece. Have a look here: viewtopic. In fact, that's what drew me to this board! I'm specifically looking for information from people who have attempted to tackle this piece technically as well as analytically though.

I wonder if anyone read that analysis and went on to attempt to play it? It's coupled with some of Fernyhough's chamber music, including the 4th Quartet. This stuff is not for the faint of heart! Here's a sample of KSII:. My questionnaire is going to be mostly relevant to guitarists who have learnt 'Kurze Schatten II' with the intention of performing it, BUT so far testing the waters there seem to be so few guitarists who have done so that someone who has even learnt just sections of the piece would be an invaluable resource!

Has anyone seen a live performance? I agree, The 'Climbing a Mountain' video is fantastic, there's actually a little library of Arditti videos on performing complexity put together by University of London school of Advanced Studies available free on itunes.
