Jun 13, I know this camera is excellent but I haven't a clue how to really work it apart from the casual shot of someone smiling stupidly at me. Can someone please recommend a good book to start learning with? The best book you can get is the manual. Read it over and over. Take notes, take page numbers and try what you see that you like or want to do. The manual is your best friend. Good luck and start taking pictures. Rob O'. Gary Friedman has a book for the a His Sony Alpha books, including the one for my a77 should be required reading.
In depth explanations of every feature available. You can also find him on Flickr. Edit: well, I stand corrected. Jun 14, I bought a Sony a37 and the manual that came with it is useless once you learn how to turn the camera on and change the battery.
The software disk had a copy of the "handbook" but it would not copy to my hard drive. I had to go online to download the handbook, and it went into much more detail about the functions of the camera. I have never used one of the books listed above; they may have more hints and tricks to get the most out of your camera. But if you are looking for free info, put the manual back in the box and read the handbook.
Jim Jameson. I have a A57 and found QuickPro's, camera guide helpful. I also got a manual printed out and spiral bound by my local printer.
Jun 15, Hi I purchased my Sony a57slt 6 months ago and found the book supplied lacked detail as a newbie to photography but you certainly benefit by purchasing the manual by David Busch I read over and over it is full of detail that will make simple for any person.
Then Practice Practice Practice. Hi The book I refer to is written by David Busch who is a well known photographer and author of many brands of cameras, where he examines the camera in detail and explains in length of all aspects of the camera. Well worth the money.

Jul 8, I have the same camera and to be honest with you all i have learned has been via the excellent menu. Keep trying the different settings then follow the menu instructions and you will soon be clicking away. Sorry i couldnt be of more help but spending hundreds for a book which cant really tell you much more is a waste in my humble opinion.
Good luck. Main Photography Discussion.
Need help with the color on my Sony A57
Dyxum website Dyxum home. New posts. Members Profile. Post Reply. I'm fairly sure I would think the A99 would be the best Alpha so far, but it's L or so at the cheapest. I like the EVF, even if glasses means it's quite a bit too large to see all of. Even if some lenses are immune to it, I wouldn't like to get another "main" AF body without micro AF adjust.

Sony A57- Best Sony Yet?
I have just bought one and am immediately impressed - just love it and want to know more. What better way than with you as guide!! Gary, Yes, an RX book would be fantastic. The fact that the camera doesn't even come with the "handbook" guide on a CD doesn't help, either.
